I live under these mountains
Hi — I'm Nadya. I live in Wals-Siezenheim, just outside Salzburg and close enough to the German border that a walk can start in one country and end in the other. The Untersberg is what I see from the window, and it stands with one foot in each.
Almost none of that would have been true a few years ago: different country, different language, different work. I started walking up hills because they were simply there, outside the window, being enormous. Then skiing. Then a bike, then running shoes. Somewhere in all that rearranging I began building apps with another developer, five time zones away — less than a year ago, and nothing like what either of us used to do.
VERT is our first one for the mountains, and it started as a complaint: the altimeters I tried either rented me numbers I already owned, covered half the screen with an advert, or — the one that really stung — lost a whole day of walking because I had closed the app without pressing stop. So we built the one I wanted to carry. It saves the day continuously, works with no reception, and the backgrounds are my own photographs, each placed at the altitude it was shot.
This is version one. An Android version is on the way, and there is a lot more I want to add. If something is missing, or wrong, or would be better another way — write to me. The app is small enough that a good suggestion can be in the next release.
